A Matter Of Life and Death

David Niven plays Peter Carter, a young RAF officer seemingly doomed before his time and trapped between life and death, between a Technicolor earth and a monochrome heaven.

Destined to crash after his Lancaster bomber is badly damaged mid-flight, in what should have been his last moments, Carter talks via his headset to an American radio operator and they form a bond just before he jumps – without a parachute – into the unknown.

Somehow he cheats death, which causes a huge commotion in the ‘other world,’ and a heavenly tribunal is convened to determine whether he can live out his years, or if his days are numbered. Meticulously restored in 4K, this is a true masterpiece of cinema.
