Birds Eye View Film Festival
This year, the ladies from Birds Eye View come to BFI Southbank to celebrate female Arab filmmakers in an industry where women make up a tiny 15% of all directors and screenwriters.
The festival comprises around 70 events, including a showcase of 10 international feature film previews, 6 documentaries, 30 short films, 7 silent films and a wider retrospective of 14 titles celebrating women in a particular genre.
Our picks include:
Gaza Calling (UK Premiere)
An extraordinary glimpse into the daily reality for families torn apart, and the struggle to stay connected.
In the Shadow of a Man (UK Premiere)
In the wake of revolution, four women talk about what it means to be a woman in Egypt.
Sleepless Nights (UK Premiere)
A haunting, intimate and instantly arresting account of redemption and forgiveness in Lebanon.
